The tower of a computer is only half of the mix needed to have a fully working computer- the next step is to obtain a monitor. Computer users know that there are several different types of monitors out there today, but knowing which one to buy and knowing which is a poor buying decision can be a tough problem to solve.
Most older folk who were around when computers started to make their mark in history are familiar with the CRT monitors. Most know the term CRT, but don't know it stands for cathode-ray tube. Don't worry, however, as knowing such information is becoming irrelevant as these styles of monitors are becoming shifted out of the industry for being too bulky.
LCD monitors are the newer form of monitors being used today. LCD monitors, which stand for liquid crystal display, are more expensive but offer better spacing options. LCD monitors also typically offer more benefit in resolution, depending on the specific make and model of computer monitor. LCD monitors are much less heavy as well, meaning they are better for home use than CRT monitors.
High resolution displays can be obtained through both CRT and LCD monitors, but only the TFT LCD displays have been able to produce truly remarkable results. TFT LCD monitors take the idea of the LCD monitor and runs with it, by offering a thin film of transistors to selectively empower pixels to be more responsive. The result is an increase in resolution, which graphics designers and professional website designers will surely appreciate.
Knowing which computer monitor to opt for is important for keeping one's budget in line. CRT monitors are always the better decision where budgets are concerned, since they are cheap to produce and last an extended period of time as well. LCD monitors are becoming much more inexpensive as time goes on, so it may only be a few more dollars just to get a better monitor that takes up less space- and that's always a great decision!
Businesses in particular will need to know what type of monitor to go for in terms of cost effectiveness and dependability. From a business standpoint, LCD monitors have become a better decision for tight office spaces. In earlier times, LCD monitors were less prized because of the "dead pixel" problems they present. New technologies have remedied this problem for the most part, however.
Final Thoughts
Computer monitors will continue to evolve and thrive and technology continues to skyrocket with each passing decade. Eventually we'll see the demise of the CRT monitor as we see more innovative types of monitors make their way into technologies and the overall history of computer science.
