Networking is all about communicating and being able to make an exchange of information. Whether in relation to a gathering of people who are brought together by common purposes, or in relation to computerized equipment that can create, handle, store and share data; it is all part of networking. If an electronic device is not able to function in a network, then data cannot be shared and in a way, loses value. But, WiFi networks provide many types of devices with a way to share information quickly and easily.
WiFi wireless networking allows you to share electronic files with friends and co-workers as needed, or even to easily share documents between your own devices, such as from your phone or personal digital assistant (PDA) to your computer. But, the real power of these wireless networks goes far beyond simply sharing files or being able to move them easily from your desktop computer to your laptop.
The world wide web has grown to become a significant source of all kinds of information for a wide array of people and their various needs. The internet has also become a more and more important way for people to conduct business. Before WiFi networks came along, the user had to find a place where they could physically plug their computer into a phone line or cable so they could have internet access.
WiFi networking has become available thanks to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, which created a set of standardized specifications for wireless services known as the IEEE 802.11 standards. Equipment manufacturers and vendors worked together to form an association that certifies compliance with 802.11 standards, called the Wireless Fidelity Alliance, or "Wi-Fi."
One of the best things about WiFi access and connectivity is that if offers people "nomadic productivity." This means that mobile computer or PDA users are able to remain connected to the computer network wherever they need to "wander" in the course of their work, without having to be concerned about going back to the office, or to some type of central connection kiosk to access and share critical information. This gives warehouse and retail store personnel portable access to customer data, and inventory and order information. Medical staff can have instant access to patient records.

With each passing year, more companies are learning about the benefits of adding WiFi accessibility in their retail establishments, in their warehouses or in their offices. This often allows their employees to collaborate better internally and provide better customer service as well. Public facilities, such as major airports and libraries, are expanding their internet access hotspots, making it easier all the time for people to find free and easy wireless internet access when they are on the go.
